About me

Hello and welcome to my website. This website is a central hub for my past, present and future adventures. I started this site in November of 2021 when I hiked the Cape to Cape Trail in Western Australia. In my younger years I was always walking off exploring the world my mum would say, there’s even a photo of me having one of those leashes tied to the pram at the zoo. As a teenage in Adelaide, South Australia I would explore the neighbourhood on my bike, going along streets never ridden down before and not always getting back before dark.

It was not until I was 15 that I did an overnight hike with Legacy (an organisation that supports deceased veterans families) and then I was rewarded with an opportunity to do an Outward Bound course through a Legacy sponsorship. It was at the Outward Bound course I did abseiling, a 4 day paddle of the Coorong in a double kayak, a disastrous sailing trip where we had to turn around due to a cold front, and a 3 day hike at Cape Jervis that forever changed my life. I went on to make a fiberglass kayak at University and with other physical education uni students did multiple canoe trips and hikes around South Australia and Victoria.

This passion meant I became a teacher of Physical Education and Outdoor Education at a couple of schools in Darwin, Northern Territory, where I led overnight and multiple day hikes in the Top End of Northern Territory as well as canoe trips on Katherine River. A highlight was a 5 day Kakadu trip from Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge) to Twin Falls.

As an adult and as a family man I always enjoyed camping, so much so we did 3 months travelling half way around Australia with the kids living out of a tent.  We would also spend July holidays travelling annually (over 9 times) to the Kimberley region. Now close to retirement I have the time, experience and money to start ticking off some items on my bucket list including the best hiking, river journeys and biking trails and use this website to share those journeys, and share many lessons along the way for the next person.

I am fortunate to be healthy and I look forward to inspiring others to get outdoors even if it’s for a few hours to enjoy nature. If you can’t walk then bike, if you can’t do those then paddle a canoe, kayak, stand up paddle board or go rafting.

This is not my full time hobby, just yet, but soon will be, so transitioning to a new opportunity has its teething problems. I am learning about social media, photography, videography as well as blogging the hard way.  My son asked me why you are doing it. I really didn’t have an answer for him. I hope I can soon enough. It certainly won’t be to become a professional travel blogger making lots of money from my social media accounts. If you have any hikes, rivers/lakes, or bike trails to add to the bucket list just contact me, I look forward to any way off adventures. Bye for now.
