Bikepacking Day 4 Western KI CP to Western River Cove

Overcast day and a little rain as I set off on the Main South Coast road  towards th eNational Park. There are some tents ready for the marathon I think on the Sunday the following day.

Here I turn right to take the Western most road which is also bituman because the dirt road that runs parallel to this road is closed still due to the fires I thinking. There is no informaiton other than the sign I saw during the hike and I asked at the caravan park.

The rain stops and Im riding uphill towards the highest part on th eisland. On the left is a huge firebreak and on the right is some man made forests that are being pulled out because of the fires.

Only a couple of cars drive past and both from the opposite way.

Its aright turn on the main north road to a small community but really its just an oval and a building club house at Gosse. I have morning tea there and have a hot cuppa to warm up as it now starts to rain again. So all the rain gear on, I have brought my Goretex jacket thats great so no problems with rain or cold once started, in fact I get warmer as I head north towards Western River.

There is a huge downhill and great views north as I decend on the road past farms to a council campground.

I meet a guy who is the only car camping there and we start chatting. He says dont need to pay, which is good as I dont think there is mobile reception to pay online anyway. I have lunch at the undercover kitchen/benches I take over to dry my gear.

We end up being the only ones camping overnight, I take a spot at the bottom of the hill near some bushes for shelter from the wind. There really wasn't many spots for tents. Theres a great undercover shelter, BBQ and toilets with water nearby where I can filter the rainwater tank.

I head off to the beach and set off the drone when no one is there in between the tourists visiting. I manage to see some people cross the river to the eastern hill and I follow suit trying not to get wet feet.

A couple of rainbows seen but no rain at the campground is hit.

dinner under th eshelter then at 8.00pm I hit the sack to get a good sleep, hearing the ocean in the distance.
