Epilogue
Food
I took 5 dehydrated meals for dinner but did not use them while walking as I consumed brown rice noodle cups and they would be fine in the future. I just did not feel like anything heavy for dinner.
I would take more muesli bars- 2 x day. Easy to carry and munch on while walking. Morning and afternoon snack.
Fitness
Played hockey season this year at a low level grade which finished 2 weekends beforehand with daily 45 minute walks with weights getting increasingly heavier so 10kg worn on the last day before departure in 34 degree heat. One weekend walk of about 10km without pack. Pace was fine, just under 4km an hour probably due to the beach walking reducing the pace to about 3km an hour.
Injuries or issues.
I had blisters concern with the little toe rubbing on the shoe so I took off the inner Imaji sock to give it more room. While looking at my left foot I had skin off at the ball of the left foot so I put on tape over it which did the trick. I was sore, hot, tired everyday mainly due to having to push the 25km per day average. 15km a day would be ok until fitness picks up.
Clothes
I would get rid of the beanie, long sleeve with hood, and the long pants as I walked in shorts for most of the trip and liked the long sleeve shirt where I can put my camera, phone, and other gear in the pockets. If I get cold I can use the waterproof pants, or top and hooded puff jacket. I would buy long SealSkinz socks so that water that is shin deep won’t get my feet wet, as much. I would wear the Sealskinz socks if I knew there was a water crossing during the day ie Day 5 & Day 2.
Gear changes
Buy a 1 litre Be free filter bag to change from the 600ml currently have. I would carry this with me in my hand to make sure I was constantly drinking water.
Take more toothpaste than my tiny hotel tube from China hotel.
Don’t need lip balm
Z Pack shoulder pouch and water bottle sleeve are useless as they both would not stay upright on the pack I had.
Needed only 10,000 power bank as only charged up once.
While I didn’t need insect repellent it’s still a must just in case.
Buy a roll-on deodorant
Didn’t need the 3 lots of headphones so take the headphones that don’t need any charging. I carried the iphone in my shirt pocket so it was always close by to connect with.
