Day 1 Great North Walk Sydney to Lane Cove Holiday and caravan park

The day started at 12.10am on a Jetstar flight from Darwin to Sydney overnight. Extra leg room on window side in exit row, pillow but cant go to the toilet easy.

arrival scheduled 6.10am which it did then of course because I was at the airport 2 hours before my luggage is last off (first on , last off).

Stuff that I was carrying on the plane was now stuffed into the pack. Plan researched beforehand is due to price of train ticket from airport 18 bucks plus fare I decided to walk to the next train station (Mascot Station) and catch it from there saving $17 bucks. Only 1km away $2.50 and cause it was a Sunday nice and quiet. So into Circular Quay for breakfast - pot of tea and bacon and eggs on GF toast then wait and wait until 9.00am opening of camping shop to buy gas cyclindar-large. But as I had time to kill before training to the camping shop I manage to get in some video of the starting point (Obelisk) back to Circular Quay- about 500m in noisy environment.

All good at finding the camping shop, closed when I arrived but gas bought I was off to either catch a skyrail  back to circular quay to catch the ferry to Woolwich.

Just managed to catch it on time. I had already have the card to use from a previous visit to Sydney the year before and just had to top it up with cash.

Ferry has great views and 3 stops. off the ferry at 11.00am.

The walk continues from Woolwich ferry stop. I go to the toilet and fill up with 1 litre of water, and I'm following an online walk map but also looking for signs, no signs once off the ferry but on the corner I see one pointing left. I have a mental map of the trail, through Goat paddock, Woolwich dry dock but miss a few turns and keep walking along the main road that the trail comes back to and have to go back a few hundred metres to take a downhill road to the Lane Cove river as I miss any signs as sometimes they are on the other side of the road plus Im looking up and not down at each post on corners. Plus Im looking at the yellow line on my app map and following that when there shold have been a red line that hasnt appeared. More on the App later on.

A drink at the local servo as its a nice warm day 28 degrees and sunny.

I continue along the now established walking track following the river until I come to a park and decided to have lunch (near Buffalo Creek) which turns out for the best because I now see the track to follow and would have gone along a bituman track if I hadnt stopped at the shelter.

Onwards past a baseball ground with tens of kids playing , North Ryde. long line for a drink.

2.28pm past the M3 freeway and walking along the river. Big steps on trail, past a waterfall coming off the rocks. Underneath the bridge a bit scary.

Dipped the hat in the water to cool off, see a big lizard nearby the water- water dragon.
