Kemp Bay Shelter to Sturt Bay Shelter
Today was either follow the dirt road the cyclists take or follow the cliff like yesterday then the road. I decide the cliffs and dont regret it as yesterday I did a sortie to see if it was easy enough to follow and yes initially it was then i either lost the track or the track got lost and disappeared but it was a scramble in a bit coast a bit and in between trying to follow the easiest path without kiling myself along the way.
Eventually it comes out following a road that goes to the beach and then a left and another left but along a trail this time that has farmland on the right hand side. Some kangaroos but not much else with the sandunes on the left. Past a house and along a farm trail to hit Port Moorowie main road to the beach. Theres a good looking beach we just missed but its a walking trail we take through some shacks, hit a road then more trail and feel like Im lost but no then along the coast to stop at the BBQ area, dump my rubbish and go to the toilet. Morning tea relaxing before heading off ona walking trail that goes to a walk the york shelter Mozzie Flat, water and campground before hitting the beach. So I fill up on water after I work out the tap situation and start the longest beach walk so far.
the sand is ok the sea weed starts off in the way but gradually disappears as the sand dunes appear on my right, the plovers leading my wat for at least 2 km, yep the same ones. Everytime I get near them they fly off, land and I catch up to them again they do the same thing. Though some got smart and flew behind me but I swear there were at least 3 that lead me along.
It was nice along the beach but does go a long way with a bay curve so you can sort of see the end location in the distance. Near the end of the walk the sand was getting thicker and sea weed creating barriers as the tide was coming in I guess and unlike previously I could go around them on the sea side but no longer. The entrance to the campground was easy enough to see as cars drive down to the beach but the camground did not look good though. Along the road to the shelter and lunch there before deciding where to pitch the tent out of the wind.
I decided on pitching the tent over an old barbed wire fence near the shelter side and on the other side of the road out which was close enough to the beach, shelter and well protected from the wind.
a good night sleep to be had after last night lack of sleep, back in the tent and more beach walk for tomorrow, where I can see what I think is a tree where I turn in off the beach in the distance but that can wait till tomorrow.
A few cars check out the place but one camper stays at the camground/toilet end.
