Day 19 Formby Shelter to Gleeson's Landing campground
An overcast morning but no rain but wind is stil here. Breaky sheltering from th ewind at the tent site behind bushes and pack sitting to provide a wind break it was off again.
Along the trail that leads to some wooden stairs and the beach where surfers go when the weather is right. Nice spot but the sand is soft, wind is a headwind and does not make for a great beach walk. Plus ots cold so gloves are on and one comes off to take videos photos as the phone doesnt work with gloves on.
its feels like a long way this morning but Ive started early and just keep putitng one foot in front of the other. There are great sand dunes on the right and its great there ar eno cars driving through them and onto the Formby Bay beach to wreck it for me so I have it all to myself. In the distance I see a large patch of sand without trees or shrubs that possibly have had cars on it near Daly Head.
As I reach the Daly Head rocks now appear and a lot of stairs up off the beach to the top. It doesnt help when you film yourself going up there for the cameras only to come down again pick up the gear and do it again for real this time.
To the top and my legs are feeling it and a bit of hufifng and puffing but from the top although windy it is a great view of where I walked today and in the distance of yesterdays walk too.
There is a toilet at Daly head and some water form the tap but its not the WTY shelter as some have thought Way Out had wrongly put the shelter there as I read the comments.
a bit of cliff walking on a trail and some beach walking then up onto a road and the shelter appears with water to fill up. Its very exposed to the wind and no shelter from it and I want to press on to Gleesons landing a few more kilometres on , its 11.00am now so plenty of time too.
I follow the road and a nice couple offer me water and chat but I ve got plenty but the campsites arent looking good, and I think there is a huge public shelter but its part of the farm house on the right, continuing on the road.
I finally get to the Walk The York sing and some toilets and theres water at them so I look around here for a sheltered spot. theres a caravan nearby and I think of sheltering behind it for it to act as a windbreak but decide not to as it seems too close.
A spot down a side road looks grea tbut is taken and another is way to close to some young people partying so no sleep tonight if I stayed next to them so a spot near the caravan behind some bushes ina bit of a hollow works out just fine.
Ive arrived early and have lunch and go for about 5 walks, 1 up the road, 2 to the beach and crayfish caravans and a few back up the road again to past the time.
Late in the day someone comes to the caravan in their council car but they take off again not to be seen that night. A couple in a tent come late and set up behind the caravan but I only see them through my tent as they are checking it out and Im having a cat nap away from the flies.
