Day 21 Corny Point CP to Lenny Barkers CG
My worst day yet.
After reading the map I had choice of inland road walk to Galway Bay or a beach walk which indicated soft sand. I also could get off the beach and only a couple of roads if needed.
Well then off to the Crny Point Beach along Dairy Road (no longer a milking dairy farm) from the caravan park and straight back again as the tide up, soft sand and seaweed right up to the cliffs. Road walk it is. It started off ok then the flies swamped me as the wind died down in land and the weather warmed up. I had known form last night there was a strong change coming through and strong winds coming through so it was going to be importand where I camped tonight knowing getting to Point Turton in this weather was going to be a very long hot day. Some options was at Point Souttar ( Galway beach) there was a camping ground, at the shelter there where there was water or Lenny Barkers campground.
Farms on the right side of the road today with natural bushland on the left but in the distance usually a farm in between but sometimes nature reaches the road. Morning tea was on the corner of Corny Point Road and 100 line road. There was some thought to head into The Pines and to see the beach section was walkable but it was too far to go and come back
I put on the head phones and music to provide me with entertainment for the 3 hours plus walk this morning but the phone was down to 30% so off it went to conserve battery as I would need it to get me around the place by Far Out app.
Lunch at the shelter and fill up on drinking water.
Short walk along the beach, the campground was looked at as it seemed in the wind both now and with the wind change. Then between the shacks or holiday homes was a set of stairs that take you to Galway crescent then along that road. Then along a dirt 4wheel drive road parallel to the North Coast Road I walked not knowing it was right as no markers until it hits the main road. Then its along some side roads parallel to the main road then back on the main road more side roads until you go past the farm with the old ploughs and a huge truck coming my way, but it turns off into the plough farm at the back. Along the coast dirt road/tracks past shacks until you hit a sign saying campground then it was a matter of finding somewhere out of th ewind for now and the cool change.
There was one car and caravan camping there and they offered me a beer , no but they could offer me cold water which was great considering it was in the 30's degrees celcius now. They advised me of a little spot down further tucked away on the left. So I went back to my pack that I had taken off to explore the campground and continued to the bottom end and sure enough a great site tucked behind plenty of bushes and right on the coast. It was about 3pm now so afternoon tea then tent set up, rocks on all pegs and hope fo rthe wind is not as bad as it might be. I explored other options like near the nearby shacks and sheds if it got real bad. Off to the waters edge with low tide and then around 7pm out again at high tide. There was a boat tied up that you could see go from sitting on the mud to floating now. A few birds could be seen and Point Turton just around the corner point as well as tomorrows walk features seen.
The expected change was 6pm but it wasnt until 8pm, no thunder or lightning but some rain and normal wind, not as bad as predicted but at least it cooled down.
