Day 3 Hilltop lookout to Finke River Shelter 9.1km 5.6 degrees to 25.3 degrees max. Moderate to Difficult rating
Its been 24 hours since seeing anyone or talking to on the trail. No-one came in at all last night so I had it all to myself.
I left at 8.00am with a little wind blowing since i'm on top of the ridge line.
A walk along the crest of the ridge for awhile then a steep descent. Near the end of the descent a father and 2 daughters were climbing up near the bottom campsite. Near there I stopped for a morning break. On the flat part of the valley I came across more people who had left either Finke campsite or Ormiston Gorge.
At the first Finke River crossing I was told to follow the pink tape to the left to get around the waterhole. It was the same again for the next crossing .
I arrived around midday at the shelter where no one was there and sat down to have lunch. Many people coming past from Ormiston Gorge on their way to their luxury campsite or onwards to Hilltop. Only a couple arrived to sleep the night so we started chatting. They were on Postie bikes travelling around with the trail interrupting their journey before recommencing their journey. He had a Lanshan teent and said I should try to get the Pro 2 person, around 600g plus 2 poles.
I set up my tent on the shelter just the inner without the fly and hung the food on one of the sticks hanging in the shelter to keep the mice away.
I managed to get the drone up for a fly and chatted mos tof the afternoon away. A little "tea bag" dip in the Finke to freshen up and also cool the ankle and feet.
Charged up the phone etc using one of the 4 USB in the shelter.
In bed by 6.30pm, coughing for half an hour then slept well till morning.
