Day 6 Herman's Hideaway to Serpentine Chalet Dam. 9.2 degrees celcius - 25.9 degrees 15.9km

Left Herman's Hideaway at 7.45am watching the sun rise over the mountains in the east. The three people camping with me were gone, having packed up at night.

Had no porridge and no cups of tea as I had only 1 litre of water left. Plan is to fill up at Waterfall Gully which I've been told has water in it just off the track. I travel along the ridge for a kilometre then come across the Lookout with a Telstra tower at 16km mark and two people having breakfast who stayed there overnight. There is a couple of camping sites but no shade at all.

Its then all downhill to the Gorge and rock hopping

When I get to the gorge I'm looking at looking for the water at every large rock when I then come across a sharp right turn and there I see a waterfall with black stain and I know it must be there. With the water filter I top up the 2 x 1 litre bottles and have my now hardened white chocolate trail mix for breakfast. A few pictures of the finches drinking at the hole then off up the hill over a saddle then a long long valley walk.

At one saddle I come across a large tour group of all women and can see the three from last night up ahead of me. I stop for a snack and its 10.30am. Another valley walk and saddle then a 2km rock hop along the Inarlanga Pass creek. It starts ok then gets harder and harder as the rocks get bigger and bigger. By the end of the walk my weight of the pack make my shoulders sore.

I arrive at 1.00pm at the chalet shelter and the three are having lunch but are moving on to Counts Point for their camp. I was too tired to go any further and didn't need to rush as well. After lunch and tent set up close to the shelter it was off to the dam to check it out. A few others came for a swim and rock skimming by the blokes. Here I learnt the term tea bagging which is defined as a quick dip in the water.

At the shelter you could see mice coming out from under the platform to get food then duck back under in pure daylight. I hang up my rucksack on a tree and find out the ice got into my rubbish bag overnight.
