Collie to Nglang Boodja Hut
Cool morning as I woke up at 5.00am and headed off to the kitchen for cups of tea and breaky of baked beans and watched some telly.
Left at 7.00am all downhill to the main road out of town and onto the bike path on the left until it gets to Allanson where it crosses the road. A good bituman path for cyclists and walkers. I think the caravan owner told me about it instead of the 19km back track on the same trail i came in on.
The track goes to dirt road in the park until it comes to the river where it stops or goes left. But the signage says it does not cross or goes left even though I think I can see another track on the opposite bank. It has pools of water so Im not crossing it here. Back uphill on the dirt road and across some scrub to get back to the main Coalfields Road.
I follow this road, some cars and trucks but generally good. Some even goes to another old main road and some could go on a walking path alonside the farmers fence line but not suitable for a bike so stick with the main road.
It was quick time and distances but I miss the turn left and go uphill until I see a cyclist crossing sign on the other side of the road meaning I've gone past it. Back down the hill and right turn onto the Dam road where the trail is heading off to the right. A good trail, some forestry and some ups and downs until a steep descent with switch backs so lucky fo rthe brakes fixed until the main road is reached.
I decide to go on the main road into Honeymoon Pool instead of the uphill and around trail.
The pol is a campground and I arive about 9.30am as campers are packing up to leave by 10.00am. It's a Sunday so there is lots of people at the pool. Plenty of Bogans and tourists alike. A quick swim in the cold and I chill out till midday when I've had enough of people. Morning tea was a chocolate milk and cheese, salami and crackers plus a cold water with hydralite. Last night I put the drink in the freezer overnight and remembered to get it out and take it and its still cold.
The hut is only 4km away and I head off down the road and on the wrong way lane where it splits , to avoid the switchbacks, until it comes to the dirt road on the right. Uphill most of the way, some down and some flate on a good dirt road recently graded.
Off to the left track to the hut by 12.30 pm and I chill out at the 12 person hut.
Listen to Frankenstein, get some photos and drone action and rests, drink plenty of water.
